Transportation Systems

If you’ve even been on South West trains or the Heathrow Express, there’s a good chance you were sitting on a train made by us. We’ve won many £multi-million contracts to supply the rolling stock, signalling, electrification systems, rail communication, control and information systems needed for today’s rail network. This puts Siemens Transportation Systems at the forefront of rail technology – which makes it a great place to learn. So what are we working on at the moment?

In April 2001 Siemens won the largest rolling stock order in UK rail history - a £1 billion contract to supply the Stagecoach Group with 155 new Desiro UK trains for the South West Trains network.

Another high profile project has been the design, build and maintenance of BAA’s hi-tech Heathrow Express service which runs from London Paddington to London Heathrow airport.

Other recent successes include a £350m contract with FirstGroup/Keolis to supply and maintain 51 new trains for the Trans Pennine Express rail franchise in northern England, and a £50 million contract to upgrade end of life signalling and communications equipment for Network Rail in the Portsmouth area.

As a result of our commitment to our Engineering future, we are offering a number of vacancies this year for young people of 16 years or over to enrol onto our four-year training scheme. This includes ‘off the job’ college based training and ‘on the job’ experience leading to NVQ level 3 in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering via the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme.
